Coliving: The All-Inclusive Social Play
Medellín's coliving market has matured rapidly. At the budget end, spaces like Balu Coliving in Laureles and Nomadico in Belén run COP 1.1–1.8M/month (~$350–580) for a private room with shared facilities, weekly cleaning, fast WiFi, and community events. At the premium end, Kiin Living in El Poblado charges COP 3.0–3.8M+ (~$960–1,200+) for hotel-grade rooms with spa access, wellness programming, and a curated professional community.
When coliving makes sense: You're arriving alone, you want an instant social network, you don't cook much, and you value not dealing with lease paperwork or utility setup. Coliving removes every friction point of settling in — at the cost of shared spaces and someone else's house rules.
When it doesn't: You work irregular hours and need quiet at odd times. You're with a partner (most coliving rooms are priced for single occupancy; couples pay a premium or aren't accepted). You want to cook real meals in a full kitchen. Or you simply need solitude to recharge — the built-in community is great until it isn't.
Furnished Apartment: The Privacy Default

Room in a House: The Budget Floor
A habitación in a shared apartment or house is the cheapest private option. You get a bedroom (usually furnished with a bed, desk, and closet) and share the kitchen, bathroom, and common areas with housemates. Utilities and WiFi are almost always included in the price.
Near universities (UPB in Laureles, EAFIT in Poblado), rooms run COP 800K–1.5M. In less central neighborhoods, COP 500K–800K is possible. The trade-off is obvious: minimal privacy, housemates you didn't choose, shared bathroom schedules, and no control over common-area noise or cleanliness.
Where to find rooms: Fincaraíz (filter "habitación"), Facebook groups ("arriendo habitación Medellín"), university WhatsApp groups, and word-of-mouth. Most listings are in Spanish. Signing is informal — a one-page agreement and a month's rent up front is standard.
